Information regarding:

Examinations 2007

The examination period takes place between 30 April and 8 June 2007.

Your individual examination timetable will be delivered to departments between 19-22 March 2007 depending on production time.  Your department will inform you when it is ready to collect.  Please make sure that
you also collect a copy of the blue Notes for Candidates which contain important information on the conduct of
examinations and maps to venues where examinations are being held off campus.  It is your responsibility to familiarise yourself with these notes, which are also available at http://www.studentadmin.qmul.ac.uk/exam/timetable/index.shtml

Please make sure that you collect your individual exam timetable rather than looking up the dates of your exams on the web or at main reception.  This is because your individual timetable is our final check to make sure that your course registration is correct.  If there are any problems with your timetable, please come to the Student Administration Office, in Room CB05 on the Ground Floor of the Queens' Building, as a matter of urgency.

There are several important points to note:

1) Students are bound by the College's Examination and Assessment Regulations which can be found in the Student Guide 2006/7 which you would have received at enrolment, CB05 or at http://www.studentadmin.qmul.ac.uk/students/guides.shtml

2) It is your responsibility to make sure that you know the date, time and location of each examination. Allow yourself plenty of time before the start time of the examination to find the correct room and to consult
the seating list displayed outside it.

3) Every effort is made to avoid scheduling examinations for individual students in consecutive time slots but both time and accommodation constraints as well as specific requests from examination boards and
the wide-ranging nature of the course-unit system make this impossible on occasion. Please note that the published examination timetable will only be amended to correct actual errors and not to respond to individuals’ preferences.

4) Amendments to the published timetable will NOT be notified to individuals, other than students sitting examinations from outside the College. It is your responsibility to check the noticeboard/website
periodically for any amendments which affect your individual timetable.

5) It is essential that you have your student card with you at all examinations; you will not be allowed into an examination room without your student card. Identity checks for security purposes are also
carried out periodically in some buildings where examinations take place. This applies to both enrolled students and those sitting examinations from outside the College.  If you have lost your student card, you must replace it
before the start of the examination period; replacements can be obtained from the Student Administration Office at a cost of £12.00.

6) Candidates should bring to the examination room only those materials required to complete the examination. Candidates should not bring personal valuables or mobile phones. Bags and coats must be left outside the room or in a space within the room indicated by the invigilator or attendant. Instrument or pencil cases
brought into the room may be inspected at any time by the invigilator.  For security reasons, it is recommended that purses, wallets etc are not left in bags/coats but are placed under your examination desk or
chair for the duration of the examination. The College cannot be held responsible for the security of your personal belongings.

7) Candidates should not bring mobile phones into an examination room because of potential disturbance. Candidates who do have mobile phones should make sure that they are switched off and are left either with their bags or placed under their desk/chair. It is deemed an examination offence for a mobile phone to ring during an
examination; candidates whose mobile phones ring during an examination will be reported and are likely to be fined.

8) Where an examination has to be rescheduled, it will be rescheduled within the examination period. It is advisable not to make any vacation arrangements that would involve you being away from the College
before the formal end of examinations on 8 June.

Friday 30th March 2007 is a very important deadline. It is the end of the second semester.

If you wish to withdraw from an individual course-unit you must withdraw by this deadline. Please complete the course withdrawal form, available from the Student Administration Office. The form must be countersigned by your adviser and then returned to the Student Administration Office.

If you wish to be considered for special examination arrangements, you must make application by this deadline. Please make an appointment to see the College's Disability Co-ordinator in the Advice and Counselling Service, Ground Floor, Geography Building.  Applications made after this date will not be accepted unless they are
the result of a recent accident or a recently-diagnosed medical condition.

If you have already made a request for special arrangements and your assessment has been approved you will be informed in writing of the specific location for your examinations. Please ignore the location given on your individual timetable.  Please also make sure that your term time address details are up to date and correct.

If you wish to interrupt your study, you must have done so by this deadline. Applications for interruption of study will not be accepted after this deadline, and you will be expected to attend all examinations for which you have entered.

Remember to check regularly for amendments to the timetable on the noticeboard in the foyer of the Queens' Building and at http://www.studentadmin.qmul.ac.uk/exam/timetable/index.shtml

If you have any queries please go to your department or to the Student Administration Office.

Kind regards

Mrs Marie Campbell-Davies
Senior Assistant Registrar
