The Centre for Commercial Law Studies maintains a range of contacts with international institutions and the legal profession.

Study Abroad Programmes

We have a long tradition of welcoming overseas students who wish to incorporate academic study at Queen Mary into their home institutions' academic programmes. We have both formal agreements with institutions –listed below –but also welcome independent applications from students from other Universities.

Bucerius Programme
Students from the Bucerius Law School , Hamburg , Germany come to London for a semester and attend LLM classes across all disciplines, receiving credits towards their law degree in Germany .

Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration
In a joint venture with the School of International Arbitration at CCLS, the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration offers an Arbitration Certificate Course in Cairo. Full details are available from the CRCICA website.

European Intellectual Property Institutes Network
EIPIN was founded in 1999 to facilitate and increase cooperation among IP institutions and students in Europe. There are now five institutes in membership: the Centre D'Etudes Internationales de la Propriete Industrielle (CEIPI) at the Robert Schuman University of Strasbourg; Magister Lucentinus at the University of Alicante; NDS Geistiges Eigentum at ETH Zurich; the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center (a partnership between the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property, Competition and Tax Law, the University of Augsburg; the Technische Universität München, and the George Washington University Law School) and the Queen Mary Intellectual Property Research Institute at CCLS. Hamline University Dispute Resolution Institute
In a joint venture with the School of International Arbitration at CCLS and Professor T.E. Carbonneau of Penn State Dickinson School of Law, the Hamline University Dispute Resolution Institute offers a Certificate Program in Global Arbitration Law and Practice: National and Transborder Perspectives. Institute of International Business qm summer abroad qm/tul
The Institute of International Business is a partnership between Tulane Law School and CCLS. The Institute is inaugurating this collaboration with a Summer School in International Commercial Law, which will be held in London. Details of the programme are available from the Tulane University Law School website and via email from Sandra Baird.

Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys
The Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys is the professional body for trade mark attorneys in the UK. CCLS runs a 2 year course to prepare members of the profession for the Joint Examination Board Advanced Trade Mark Papers T3, T4 and T6. The course is open to students of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys and the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents who have sat or are exempt from the Foundation Papers Basic English Law, T1 and T2. The course is supported by dedicated course pages for both Year 1 and Year 2 [access restricted to registered students].

McDermott Will & Emery
MWE is an international law firm with more than 1,000 lawyers and offices in Boston, Brussels, Chicago, Dusseldorf, London, Los Angeles, Miami, Milan, Munich, New York, Orange County, Rome, San Diego, Silicon Valley and Washington, DC. Since 2003, the Queen Mary Intellectual Property Research Institute at CCLS has helped produce the company's European Intellectual Property Bulletin, with researchers providing content for 10 issues per year.

Scandinavian Programme
Founded by Anna Morner in 1997, in collaboration with universities in Stockholm , Lund , Gothenburg, Copenhagen and Bergen , CCLS offers an external programme in International Financial Law, offering students the choice of PG Certificate or PG Diploma in International Finance Law qualifications. Students can either study towards a PG Certificate –One Semester (September to December) or a PG Diploma –Two Semesters (September-March).

Banking Law - Compulsory
Legal Aspects of International Finance – Compulsory + one additional option course from either

Regulations of Financial Markets or
Law of Finance and Foreign Investment of Emerging Markets

PG Diploma – same as above plus additional option
EU Comparative and International Aspects of Securities Regulation

Students from other Universities are welcome to apply but MUST get approval from their home institution first to ensure that the qualification is suitable and will be recognised and also have a suitable academic background. University of Texas
Law students from the University of Texas at Austin are able to spend a semester studying at CCLS. The programme has been running for many years and UTA students have the opportunity to attend CCLS LLM class and receive credits towards their JD degree as all CCLS courses are accredited by the American Bar Association . The programme is also open to non-University of Texas students and we have welcomed independent students from Harvard University , University of Pennsylvania , University of California , William and Mary.

In a joint venture with Master of Advanced Studies in Intellectual Property ( MAS) in Intellectual Property at ETH Zurich and the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center , CCLS offers Queen Mary LLM students the opportunity to participate in its Washington Programme on Intellectual Property in the United States of America .
